BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES FOR GENERATIONS

Sheltering Arms provides universal, targeted, and selective services to the PS/MS 42Q school community. These include special events, workshops, push-ins to classrooms to assist with social emotional learning, presentations about mental health and social and emotional growth, de-escalation assistance for students in crisis and ongoing collaboration with staff to meet the needs of our 42 students.

The requirements to receive Mental Health Services is to be enrolled as a student at PS/MS 42Q. Sheltering Arms has many resources and programs that clients in program and their families can access/be referred to. Students receive in school, weekly individual therapy and family therapy. Full psychiatric evaluations and ongoing treatment with a staff psychiatrist is available to all clients in the program. Groups, both clinical and non-clinical are also offered. All referrals to program are made by school staff, including , teachers, administrators, and counselors.

When students feel supported and welcome, they thrive in school.

Rose Sodano (Miss Rose) has been working as the Mental Health Therapist at Sheltering Arms since 2017. She works at the satellite Mental Health Clinic located within the school. Each school year we also welcome a Social Work Intern.
