Attendance

At PS/MS 42 we take attendance seriously.

Good attendance and punctuality are critical to student success. Days off school soon add up and missing lessons makes it hard to catch up, resulting in students having to work harder when they come back and missing critical information that will prevent their academic progress. Something important to note, while we want to see students attend school we also want to prioritize a healthy school community so we ask students to stay home if they are sick.

Covid-19 Key Information

While we do want to see students attend school we are prioritizing the health and safety of our entire school community. If your child is sick please ensure they stay home. Below is some information about Covid-19.

Does attendance matter in the early grades?

YES! Studies show that children who were chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade were far less likely to read at grade level by the the end of 3rd grade.

What does it mean to be chronically absent?

When a PS/MS 42Q student misses 18 days or more of school - for any reason- they are considered chronically absent

What can families do?
