Chorus: Voices of Children

Voices of Children (VOC) is P.S./M.S. 42Q's School Chorus. VOC has been sharing the vocal and dramatic talents of P.S./M.S. 42Q students for over 15 years in grades 3-8. VOC proudly hosts an annual Holiday Concert in December and Spring Concert in May. 


Current Chorus Updates:

  •  Voices of Children is calling for Vocal Arts Performance Videos from all grades for the 2022 Queens Borough Arts Festival. THe submission deadline is Friday, March 18th, 2022 All videos may be emailed to mreason@schools.nyc.gov

  • We are pleased to inform you that the Cultural After School Adventures (C.A.S.A)/ BRAATA Productions after school program is back! Students that are interested in exploring various vocal styles of Caribbean music are welcome to join us! 

    • Vocal music sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:40-4:00 p.m and begin on Thursday, March 17th, 2022.

Who We Are:

Our motto is, "Use Your Voice!". When we say it, we don't solely mean using your voice only to sing but using your voice to become an advocate for others. Voices of Children encourages student performers to become explorers of knowledge as well as lifelong learners using music as a platform.

Highlights/Accomplishments

Our chorus has had the opportunity to perform in collaboration with the Parent Advisory Council of PS/MS 42Q in their annual Black History Showcase on the stage of the National Black Theatre in Harlem, NY and at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ as a part of the international chorus group, American Voices.

Criteria to Join the P.S./M.S. 42Q’s Voices of Children Chorus:

  • There is no cost to participate in Voices of Children.

  • ​An interest and desire to sing and perform. 

  • Completion of an audition (Returning members are not required to do another audition)             

  • A signed rules and regulations acceptance letter on file by a parent/guardian.

Special Shout Out:

Brianna Percell, a VOC student performer had her vocal performance video featured in the 2020 Queens Virtual Arts Festival this past June, congrats Brianna!
